The League for Innovation in the Community College: The League is an international organization dedicated to promoting innovative teaching in the community college classroom.

Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C): The purpose of the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) is to help learning organizations continually improve the quality of their educational programs.

Illinois Online Network: The Illinois Online Network (ION) is a collaboration of forty-eight community colleges and the University of Illinois working together to advance utilization of Internet-based instruction and service throughout the state of Illinois. ION provides an online education series and face-to-face training workshops.

Publications:

The Chronicle of Higher Education: The “Chronicle” is academe’s resource for news and information. The articles focus on the interests of higher education faculty and administrators.

Community College Week: The independent source of in-depth information for and about two-year college faculty, administrators and trustees. Published biweekly, Community College features include analyses of critical academic trends and issues, vital statistics, technology updates and employment opportunities.

Instructional Resources:

MERLOT: A free and open resource designed primarily for faculty and students of higher education. Links to online learning materials are collected here along with annotations such as peer reviews and assignments.

World Lecture Hall: The World Lecture Hall contains links to pages created by faculty worldwide who are using the Web to deliver class materials. The site contains examples of online course syllabi, assignments, lecture notes, exams, class calendars, multimedia, and textbooks.

Online Instruction:

17 Elements of a Good Online Course: Honolulu Community College maintains this site which provides a list of the basic criteria for a good online course.

Teaching Online: Best Practices and Tips: A collection of examples and links to sites related to the use of electronic class discussion, engaging online students, and humanizing online instruction.

Avoiding Online Discussion Pitfalls: Site provides a rubric of possible problems and related solutions for online instructors using discussion boards to support class discussions. The site is managed and supported by San Francisco State University

The TEACH Toolkit: The TEACH Toolkit is an online resource for understanding copyright and distance education. The site provides vital information about the new Technology, Education, and Copyright Harmonization Act (TEACH Act) and how it related to current higher education distance education efforts, including online courses.

The TEACH Act Finally Becomes Law: The site provides specific information about the TEACH Act as well as a checklist to see whether your course meets the TEACH Act standards.
